A text QR code stores plain text directly in the code, with no link and no internet needed to read it. Scanning shows the text on screen. It's useful for equipment labels, scavenger hunts, short instructions, inventory IDs or a message on a gift.
QR codes can hold up to about 2,900 characters at low error correction, but codes with less than 300 characters are much easier to scan. Your text is encoded on your device and never sent to us.
How to make one
- Type or paste your text (any language and emoji are supported via UTF-8).
- Keep it short for small prints, or raise the error correction for rough environments.
- Download as SVG or PNG.

Tips for codes that always scan
- For long content, host it on a web page and use a URL QR code instead.
- Some scanner apps offer to search the text on the web, while camera apps simply display it.
- For asset tags, combine a human-readable ID printed next to the code with the same ID inside it.
FAQ
How much text fits in a QR code?
Up to about 2,900 characters (fewer with higher error correction or non-Latin characters). For reliable scanning, keep it under a few hundred characters.
Can text QR codes be read offline?
Yes. The text is stored in the code, so no internet connection is needed.
Is my text private?
We never receive it, because the code is generated in your browser. Remember that anyone who scans the printed code can read the text.
